After two months of prep — world building, character sketching, and outline writing — I began work on my YA novel Wednesday of last week.
Two months is a little misleading. I wrote a novella containing most of the novel’s core ideas before Christmas, but the real work has taken place since Jan.
Since Wednesday, I have pounded out about 15k words. The work progresses smoothly, because it is all planned. I envisioned these chapters well in advance of typing them up, and that seems to make a huge difference both in my ability to immerse myself in the work, and in quickly moving from one important scene to the next.
Now I merely have to push through to the end.
