Third Draft’s a Charm

As I neared the middle of this third draft rewrite on The Doorlands, I realized two of the characters should be one.  That has set me back a bit, but not overly much I think.  One of the two had few speaking parts up until now, while the other sticks with the main character throughout most of the novel.  I’ve now given the active character all the play–at least in outline form–and I’m discovering that doing so has spiced up the story.

Yes, it’s a truckload more work, rewriting to exclude the now-defunct character, but it’s worth the effort.
